School Board

The DeKalb Eastern School Board is comprised of community members who volunteer their time and talents in service to our schools. They meet together monthly at a regular public meeting — in addition to holding supplementary meetings as deemed necessary — and make decisions regarding school policies, budget allocations, and other relevant issues that affect our district. Patrons are encouraged to enjoy meeting with Board members prior to the meeting. Individuals wishing to address the Board on a listed actionable Board agenda item may register for that specific item within (30) minutes prior to the meeting. Speakers are limited to three (3) minutes and are reminded that Board meetings are public meetings and proper decorum is expected. We ask speakers to please refrain from comments that are derogatory or personal in nature. We also ask that the audience give the speaker their undivided attention and avoid spontaneous outburst or applause as this will reduce the speaker’s time to address the Board. All statements shall be directed to the presiding officer and no patron may address or question Board members individually. Public comment will be limited to thirty (30) minutes with district residents, employees, parents, or taxpayers allowed first speaking rights. The presiding officer may terminate any patron’s privilege of address for violation of rules of conduct. The presiding officer may request any individual to leave the meeting when that person does not observe reasonable decorum. The presiding officer may also call for a recess or adjournment to another time when the lack of public decorum interferes with the orderly conduct of the meeting to warrant such action. Patrons wanting to add potential topics to the Board agenda are required to follow Board Policy BDA. This policy requires anyone wishing to submit a proposed agenda item, must be reduced to writing and submitted to the Superintendent by noon two calendar weeks prior to the Monday Meeting. The Superintendent and/or School Board President are responsible for developing the Board agenda. Board Policy KL will be followed for consideration in determining proposed School Board agenda item eligibility. This policy requires anyone with questions or complaints to follow proper procedures. Board Policy KL also states constructive criticism of the schools is welcomed by the Board whenever it is motivated by a sincere desire to improve the quality of the education program or to equip the schools to do their tasks more effectively and when proper procedures are followed by persons, such as following proper channels for meaningful discussion and resolution. Thank you for your cooperation and we appreciate your support of the school district.
