INSPIRE

Inspire LogoINSPIRE is Indiana's Virtual Library. INSPIRE is a collection of academic databases and other information resources that can be accessed by Indiana residents. INSPIRE includes the following content: magazine and journal articles, websites, pamphlets, images, almanacs, library catalogs, and more.

Most resources require no login, some however, you may need to verify who you are (as an Indiana resident). The list below is just a highlight of some resources, to view them all click the INSPIRE logo.

  • Explora for Elementary Schools A student interface designed for use in Kindergarten through grade 5 with a focus on the Arts, Literature, Biography, Current Events, Geography and Culture, Health, History, Math, Science and more.
  • Primary Search Contains full text for more than 80 popular elementary school magazines. All full-text articles are assigned reading level indicators (Lexiles). Additionally, Primary Search includes the Encyclopedia of Animals™, and features the Funk & Wagnalls New World Encyclopedia, which provides students with easy-to-read encyclopedic entries written specifically for kids. This database also provides the American Heritage Children's Dictionary and thousands of relevant photos, maps and flags.
  • Middle Search Plus: Contains full text for more than 150 popular middle school magazines. All full-text articles are assigned a reading level indicator (Lexiles). Full text is also available for thousands of biographies and historical essays. Also contains primary source documents including Essential Documents in American History, reference books including the Funk & Wagnall's New World Encyclopedia; New Oxford American Dictionary, 2nd Edition; Encyclopedia of Animals™; and thousands of relevant photos, maps and flags.

  • Explora for High Schoolers:  An interface designed for students in grades 9 through 12 with a focus on the Arts, Literature, Biography, Business and Careers, Current Events, Geography and Culture, Health, History, Math, Science and more.
  • MAS Ultra-High School Edition:  Designed specifically for high school libraries, contains full text for 500 popular magazines. Full text is also available for over 85,000 biographies and over 80,000 primary source documents. Also contains nearly 400 reference books (including the Columbia Encyclopedia and the CIA World Fact Book); an Image Collection of nearly 600,000 photos, maps & flags, color PDFs; and expanded full-text backfiles (back to 1975) for key magazines.

  • Read It!Read It!™ is designed for middle and high school students and anyone who has a basic foundation in English grammar and reading but needs adapted reading material for a variety of subjects.   • TeachingBooks.net: Developed and maintained to include thousands of resources about fiction and nonfiction books used in the K–12 environment.
  • Biography in Context: Includes entries on more than 500,000 individuals spanning history and geography.  This curriculum-aligned resource offers media-rich content in context so that users can perform research on individuals and learn about their significance within their time and place.  
  • Biography Refernence CenterThis database offers a collection of full-text biographies and unique narrative biographies. 
  • History Reference CenterThis database features full text for thousands of primary source documents and informational texts.
  • Newspaper Source PlusProvides cover-to-cover full text for more than 40 national (U.S.) and international newspapers, including the Christian Science Monitor, USA Today, The Washington Post, The Washington Times, The Times (London), Toronto Star, etc. Also contains selective full text for more than 300 regional (U.S.) newspapers. In addition, full-text television & radio news transcripts are provided from CBS News, CNN, CNN International, FOX News, NPR, etc.
  • ERIC:  ERIC® is the Educational Resource Information Center, providing access to education literature and resources. The database provides access to information from journals included in the Current Index of Journals in Education and Resources in Education Index.
  • Explora Educator's EditionA tool designed to help teachers with lesson plans, student tools, curriculum standards and valuable sites for teachers.
  • Professional Development CollectionProvides a highly specialized collection of electronic information especially for professional educators. This collection offers information on everything from children's health and development to cutting-edge pedagogical theory and practice. It includes full text for more than 500 high-quality education journals and nearly 230 educational reports.
