Karla Mettert

Assistant Director, Noble County NEISEC

I began teaching 19 years ago as a third grade teacher.  It was a half-year substitute position.  After the half-year, I was asked to apply for a resource teacher position.  I did not have any special education background, but I wanted a teaching position, so I applied and obtained the job.  I went back to school to get my mild disabilities endorsement and found that special education became a passion for me.

I taught mild disabilities for 18 years at two different elementary schools within the Central Noble School System.  I have taught students with a wide range of disabilities - all of them a puzzle to be worked on daily.  I truly enjoyed working with ALL the students.  Meanwhile, I have furthered my education by obtaining a MS in elementary education as well as educational leadership.  I am currently working on getting the few classes I need to obtain my Director of Exceptional Needs license.

Last school year I was welcomed into the Northeast Indiana Special Education Cooperative family.  I am the assistant director in the Noble County area.  I am very excited about the new challenges I face daily.

Personally, I am married to Steve, and we have two grown children and five grandchildren.
