DeKalb Eastern Schools Resource Officer
Officer Courtney Fuller is the School Resource Officer (SRO) for DeKalb Eastern Schools. As a deputy with the DeKalb County Sheriff's Department, he is assigned to Eastside Junior/Senior High School on a full-time basis. His goals include law enforcement, education, and counseling, all in an effort to foster a safe, peaceful, and respectful learning environment for all students. His K-9 partner is "Mojo."
Officer Fuller is not just a "cop" on campus. He provides all law enforcement duties at Eastside. He educates students by teaching law related classes and other related subjects in the classroom. He counsels both student and parents on various topics. He becomes involved in the students' lives as a positive role model. The intent is that the positive experiences students have with Officer Fuller will bridge the gap between juveniles and law enforcement and, in doing so, help prevent juvenile crime.
It's important for students and the public to remember that the presence of SROs at schools is not because the schools are unsafe, but instead an indicator that the District is taking positive, proactive steps to ensure that the schools remain safe, conducive places for learning.
