Staff Spotlight with the Superintendent

Spotlight with the Superintendent 2023 C Taylor

Who are you?
I am Chris Taylor and at the present time, I am a bus driver for Eastside and IMPACT. I have also driven for Riverdale and Butler Elementary in the past.

When did you start at DKE?
I have been driving for over 24 years.

What do you do or what does your typical day look like?
On a typical day I do a pre-trip of my bus to be sure it’s safe to drive. I drive my two routes and when needed I sub drive, run field trips and athletic runs.

What is your “Why” behind the job?
When my kids were in elementary, I started looking for job that would allow me to be home during the summer. The school was looking for a bus drivers so I applied and have been driving ever since. Today, I am still driving for my other kids, the ones that ride my bus! I have watched them grow, mature and become parents themselves.

What is one thing you like best about Schools/District?

DeKalb Eastern is Family!

What is one encouraging bit of advice for someone interested in your career?
My advice to others interested in being a bus driver is forget what you think driving is. If you can drive, you can drive a bus. Managing the kids is as simple as following the rules I have on my bus: Be nice! Be respectful of others! Apologize when needed! Have a sense of humor! My advice to kids on the first day of school is always the same, Only God is perfect, the rest of us just have to do our best. Your best today may not be as good as your best tomorrow. Each day is made up of many moments. Don't let one small moment ruin your day. Just fill the other moments with good things.

Chris Taylor reviews with Dr. Conwell the safety processes performed prior to every transportation run and walks him through the brake testing steps.
